KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Making Bahasa Melayu the language for business and the economy is one of the three thrusts of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Strategic Plan from 2021 to 2025, with the aim to preserve and broaden the use of the Malay language and its literature.
“DBP's big responsibility is upholding the Malay language, pursuant to Article 152 of the Federal Constitution, which stipulates Bahasa Melayu as the national language, and based on this the strategic plan has been developed. He added that DBP has diversified its approach to promoting the content of the heritage, including through the use of digital platforms in accordance with current developments.
Meanwhile, DBP director-general, Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abang Shokeran, said that the Covid-19 pandemic had opened up new ways of working at DBP, by digitisation of most programmes, and implementation online.
I actually think less people speak BM today then they did before DBP was set up. Maybe they should untie the link between Malay Nationalism and the B.M. Make it about Malaysian patriotism rather than Malay Nationalism. The language belongs to all of us not just one race.
