KUALA LUMPUR: There were more new Covid-19 cases than recoveries on Saturday (Dec 4), says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health Director-General said the Ministry's daily Covid-19 update recorded 4,896 new cases and 4,676 recoveries."There are 490 cases requiring treatment at an Intensive Care Unit . 358 of them are Covid-19 cases while the remaining 132 cases are suspected or are still under investigation," he said in a statement on Saturday ."Of the new 4,896 daily cases, 79 cases were from Categories 3,4 and 5 while 4,817 cases were from Categories 1 and 2," he said.

Of the 4,896 new cases, Dr Noor Hisham said 18 were imported cases while 4,878 were local infections.The latest data by the Health Ministry also showed that the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-nought in Malaysia was 0.97, with Perlis showing the highest at 1.16. This is followed by Selangor and Kuala Lumpur at 1.01 each while Johor, Penang and Kedah registering at 0.99 each. The state with the lowest Rt is Sarawak at 0.73.
