MELAKA: Melaka police have arrested 1,400 people since the start of compliance operations on Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) since March, last year.

Melaka deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Razali Abu Samah said 818 people were arrested in Melaka Tengah, followed by 375 in Alor Gajah and 207 in Jasin from March 18, 2020 to July 31 of this year.

SAC Razali noted that compound notices totalling RM2.2mil were issued to 2,258 people from March 18 to Dec 31 last year, followed by compound notices totalling RM2mil were issued to 2,077 people from Jan 1 to May 31 this year. He said most of the SOP offences included failure to wear face masks and not recording details on MySejahtera or on the logbook before entering premises, allowing dine-ins, failing to maintain physical distancing and operating beyond the allowed operating hours.

“Compound notices up to RM456,500 were issued, and 148 premises were ordered to be temporarily closed,” he said.
