CHICAGO, United States (Bernama): Drugmaker Pfizer-BioNTech announced Thursday (July 8) that it is working on a Covid-19 vaccine to target the Delta variant and will begin clinical trials in August in case it is needed.

Some industry experts have warned that profit could be more a motivating factor for drug companies eager to get new vaccines approved by the US Food and Drug Administration .

Pfizer-BioNTech is also asking the US FDA to approve their new Covid-19 booster shot, which they say will increase protection against the virus. The booster shot they have come up with does not specifically target any Covid-19 variant, and US health officials have already said that the current vaccines on the market protect against the surging Delta variant.

In the United States, the problem remains, vaccine hesitancy colliding with the Delta variant, which may be more transmissible and more dangerous.
