IPOH (Bernama): The Perak Health Department has outlined various strategies to manage Health Ministry (MOH) hospitals in the state since the Covid-19 pandemic hit last year to ensure services remain at optimum level.

State Health director Dr Ding Lay Ming said a total of 14 MOH hospitals were involved in treating Covid-19 patients in Perak with 963 beds and 81 intensive care unit beds.

"Besides that, the Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at Arena Badminton, Ipoh with a capacity of 520 beds has been set up with cooperation from the state government. "This brings the total number of beds prepared for Covid-19 patients in Perak to 1,564,” she said in a statement on Monday night.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a Facebook post on Saturday night said Perak has recorded an increase in Covid-19 categories four and five cases requiring treatment at the ICU. He said as of Saturday, there were 121 Covid-19 patients in the state who were being treated in the ICU with an average rate of seven days of ICU bed use exceeding 100 per cent.
