On March 13, US authorities issued a no-sail order as the virus crisis ramped up. Ships with passengers offloaded them – some more easily than others.There are more than 100 ships carrying over 70,000 crew in or near US territorial waters or ports, the US Coast Guard says. Brcic was transferred on March 29 to the Koningsdam, which is meandering along the US West Coast with 1,100 personnel from eight different ships.

“We are happy to do all the things they requested, but the criminal penalties gave us pause, ” Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley said in a May 3 letter to crew.
