Its commander Datuk Dr Chong Chee Kheong said the task force was ramping up capacity at hospitals that were treating Covid-19 by increasing beds in normal wards and intensive care units by repurposing other areas within the facilities.
He added that there were currently 29 public hospitals, 51 private hospitals and two Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres treating Covid-19 patients. “This includes four full Covid-19 hospitals dedicated to treating only Covid-19 patients, which are Hospital Ampang, Hospital Selayang, Hospital Serdang and Hospital Sungai Buloh,” he said in a statement on Wednesday .
Non-Covid-19 patients were transferred to private hospitals to get the care and treatment they needed there, he added.He also said the task force is bolstering ambulance services by working with agencies such as the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Red Crescent Society and St John Ambulance.
Dr Chong said even as the government is marshalling all resources to give patients the optimal care, he advised the public to follow all standard operating procedures even after completing two vaccine doses.
