KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government's decision to order schools with Covid-19 clusters to shut was aimed at protecting other students and teachers in such schools from being infected.

"This drastic action is also a reminder to all involved, from the school management to teachers, students and parents to take proactive measures to reduce the risk of infection for students and teachers," he said in his daily briefing on Saturday (Jan 29).

He said standard operating procedures (SOP) in the workplace or school must be strictly enforced, he added.On Friday (Jan 28), the state government ordered the state Education Department to close schools with active clusters.The schools would remain closed for two to three weeks based on the advice of the State Health Department.

Meanwhile, he said Sabah recorded a slight decrease in new Covid-19 cases to 267 cases on Saturday compared to 358 cases reported Friday (Jan 28). Masidi said eight districts recorded double -digit daily cases with Tuaran recording 55 new cases, Sandakan district recorded 53 cases, followed by Kota Kinabalu (53 cases), Tawau (22 cases) and Penamapang (14 cases).
