KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government's decision to order schools with Covid-19 clusters to shut was aimed at protecting other students and teachers in such schools from being infected.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the state's decision was to ensure that Covid-19 infection could be curbed or"localised" without it spreading to other areas.

He said standard operating procedures in the workplace or school must be strictly enforced, he added. The schools would remain closed for two to three weeks based on the advice of the State Health Department. Masidi said that the number of schools affected by order to temporarily close would be known only after the Chinese New year holidays.
