Covid-19 : 118 new cases, death toll now at 70

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 118 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Friday (April 10), bringing the total to 4,346, according to the Health Ministry.

This translates to a fatality rate of 1.6% out of the total number of cases.For the second day in a row, Malaysia recorded more Covid-19 recoveries than new cases.Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 222 Covid-19 patients had been discharged as of noon Friday.

So far, 1,830 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.The rate of Covid-19 recovery in Malaysia is 42.11% out of the total number of positive cases.Currently, 69 patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU).

On the latest Covid-19 death cases, the 68th fatality is a 62-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes.He is a close contact of a Covid-19 patient who is from the Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling tabligh gathering cluster.He was treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu and passed away at 8.21am.

The 69th fatality is a 77-year-old man with a history of diabetes. He was treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and passed away at 4am.The 70th case is an 88-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure and dementia.She is a close contact with a Covid-19 positive patient. She was treated at the Universiti Malaysia Medical Centre, and passed away at 2.38am.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the movement control order will be extended to April 28.Malaysia is in its 24th day of the MCO, as people are instructed to stay at home and movement is heavily restricted. Read more: The Star »
