Cops record statement of Nepali guard who was beaten up
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statement of a Nepali security guard who was beaten up recently.
"The 26-year-old victim went to the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters at about 5.30pm on Wednesday (Aug 5)."We obtained a complete statement from him over the incident, a video of which went viral on July 31," he said on Thursday (Aug 6).
The investigation papers are almost completed and will be forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action, he added."We are thankful for the cooperation shown by all parties. We hope the public will refrain from being involved in criminal activities as stern action will be taken," Supt Rajab said.
It was reported that a man was detained on Monday (Aug 3) in connection with the incident.The suspect has since been remanded.A video making its rounds on social media shows a man repeatedly hitting the security guard.In the one-minute video, a man speaking Bahasa Malaysia confronts the guard and continuously beats him with a baton.
Off-camera, another voice speaking in a language similar to Hindi can be heard, possibly the person taking the video.The attacker is also seen punching the guard in the face.The video has a timestamp indicating that it was recorded on July 7. Read more: The Star »
