KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for several Facebook users over a post claiming that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had directed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to step down as Prime Minister to make way for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

said their Classified Crime Investigation Unit opened investigations into the post belonging to Facebook user Sharifah Sofia Syed Rashid III on Feb 27.

"Our investigations have been classified under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for causing public fear or alarm and misuse of network facilities," he said in a statement on Saturday ."To ensure peace and harmony, the police urge the public to refrain from publishing or distributing any rumours or news which could cause public anxiousness.
