PETALING JAYA: Malaysian international Dion Cools returns to the Belgian League in search of valuable playing minutes.

The rightback will be looking for more playing opportunities as he has joined SV Zulte Waregem on a six-month loan deal from Danish club Midtjylland.

This season, the 25-year-old, who was hampered by injury, has been used sparingly and started only five times in the Danish Superliga. He played for them until 2019 before moving to Denmark. Cools sees the opportunity with his new club as a stepping stone to prove his worth and help the club realise their full potential.

“I see myself as a modern rightback who likes to help in defence and attack,” said Cools in a statement issued by the club. “Zulte are a contemporary and warm club that despite the lesser results of the past months, they always strive to achieve their healthy ambitions and hopefully I can be a part of that.”Their highest finish in the league was second place in 2012–2013.They are currently struggling and are 16th in the 18-team standings.

They are just a spot above the relegation zone and hope that with Dion’s addition, they will survive the drop.“Dion knows the competition and is 100% physically and mentally ready and is an essential reinforcement for our defensive compartment.”
