Albert Wines & Spirits had already taken action to recall the affected products.

A company was fined RM8,000 by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today for importing and distributing mineral water that contained cancer-causing nitrite.Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim also ordered the company to pay the prosecution RM300 for costs and publication in the newspapers of the conviction, pursuant to Section 12 of the Food Act 1983.

The officer analysed and found the sample to contain Nitrite at 0.02 mg/l, which is higher than the permitted rate of 0.005 mg/l.
