'Looks like we're stuck with never-ending racially defined economic, social, and cultural policies.'

COMMENT | The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on March 21. On that day in 1960, South African police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid laws in Sharpeville, South Africa.

Subsequently, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed this day as a date for special observance and called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was adopted and opened for ratification by the UN General Assembly in 1965.As Malaysians know very well, the ratification of Icerd has proven to be most elusive through successive regimes. During the years of BN rule with Umno's de facto dominance, this question was non-negotiable.

When the new Pakatan Harapan coalition came into office in May 2018, their administration was marked by flip-flops on implementing the reforms they had promised voters in their GE14 manifesto.

Why not we start in abolishing vernacular schools? We don't find that in other parts of the world.

Toxic tongkat culture here to stay

Sbb takde cuti Public Holiday kot? sbb tu kita tak sambut.

Macam u tak tahu? We are breeding and living on the path of racism, no?

It is the most racist country in the world today. Those who consider themselves natives have sold out their culture and heritage.

You got to be kidding 😏

If they do, I will be ROTFLMAO.

Your 3rd world response is we can't possibly be racist because we have churches and temples. Racist people don't know they're racist.

Malay privilege of course.

All of you same

Umno and pas will make sure 'that' will never happen ever.

Why keep blaming the political parties? The blame lies mainly on ppl who subscribe to racist and supremacist agenda. If political parties didn't have an audience, then we won't see any of despicable, disgusting racism and fanaticism.

Because they feels guilty or they know their racist in silence..in particular segment of Msian society thus their arrogant politicians..SUHAKAM IDEASMalaysia usembassykl

Sabar... Sabar... Satu hari nanti akan dapat Keadilan dan Langit akan cerah dengan Satu Malaysia tidak kira bangsa atau agama tetapi kena buang Ahli Politik yang kotor dan berrasuah dahulu.

Don't sweat it! I'm sure others aren't celebrating it too, like the KKK, the neo-Nazis, Aryan Nations etc etc.

Because they are shame to celebrating it.

Betul. Contohnya, ada antara kita yg abaikan bahasa kebangsaan... Sedih.. dan memalukan...

Malay racism against the other bumis and races are evil and low life lying trash and will fail and result in the breakup of Malaysia!

Malaysian leaders cannot hold their head high when they attend United Nations related seminars and conference about Human Rights / Palestine issues and Rohingya muslims plight in Burns etc because at home in Malaysia -Anti-Racial Discrimination Day is not celebrated.

Why.. There are more important things to do, rather than social gathering.. haha..!!

Discrimination is Promoted by the current Government and the Taliban North. It will Never be about All Malaysians but One kind of Malaysian.

Kalau Malaysia Rasis -- 1.Mana Mungkin Yang Terkaya Orang Cina? 2.Mana Mungkin Ada Kuil? 3.Mana Mungkin Ada Sekolah Tamil & Cina Rakyat Malaysia Tiada Yang Rasis!! Yang Rasis Ialah Orang2 Politik Macam 🐖🐖 DAP

The govt itself is a racists govt

We In Malaysia, Celebrate Every-day !!

And then when discrimination was happen under jealousy between company of their own. And put more tax secara sorok2. It's okay unless we pay also.

Because of mindset in the past dark years. They didn't educate themselves. Alien well think so wise more than aku orang melayu, aku oranh cina, aku orang india tapi mindset kerja dia rasuah, todi, judi, ribaloan 10% downpayment to work hard but nothing.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a question! We in Malaysia are very clever to sweep these kind of things under the carpet! Moreover those in power are in denial and things that don't affect them(ie racism issues)is considered not worth the trouble!

The N Koreans just expelled will manipulate if there is racial strife.

Because our current govt is the most racist bunch..

Bcus it’s likely one wud be shooting at ones own foot

They kept it for their political survival

Racism? Apa tu?

Because mak dia hijau

Becos out govt uses race to govern mah

Because we don't believe in it?

Why don't you travel back to 1975 & ask South Africa to celebrate Anti-Racial Discrimination Day

Any move or initiative for racial equality in Malaysia will be met with resistance by political elites who live and thrive on the people being racially divided.

Because it’s still widely practised by politicians?

Win

Because racism is constitutionalized and institutionalized and in Malaysia.

'Why Malaysia not celebrating Anti-Racial Discrimination Day?' That's because there racists like these in Malaysia.

because the crux of the NEP New Economic Policy was to discriminate against the Non-Malays.
