Citizens and Blues in decisive clash

FRANK Lampard’s Chelsea are above Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the league table after 12 league games. Who would have predicted that at the start of the season? Are Chelsea in the title race?

Tammy Abraham is establishing himself as a prolific striker in the league having scored 10 league goals, Mason Mount has cemented his place in midfield and Fikayo Tomori has been defensively solid, Callum Hudson Odoi and Reece James have been exceptional every time they play. A win against Guardiola’s side would be massive for Lampard as it would lift his morale and make others take notice of a young manager who is managing a side that is still in its transitional period. I believe the conversation of Chelsea being in the title race is in the near future, the main priority is still being in the top four.

The Citizens have already lost three games against Wolves, Norwich and Liverpool after only 12 games. This is just one shy of four defeats that they suffered in the whole of the 2018/2019 season, which is strong evidence that they are really struggling.
