LAS VEGAS, Jan 3 — The Consumer Electronics Show , one of the world’s largest trade fairs, returns to Las Vegas in person this week under a newly resurgent pandemic that has supercharged the industry but threatens its downsized expo.

But some experts urged caution and daily testing, as not all attendees can be counted on to comply with mask-wearing rules. Last year’s event was online-only, with organisers saying it was “not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas.” But organisers are pushing ahead with the in-person show, noting that thousands of smaller companies had invested money to attend.
