Catamaran skipper, operations manager get 2 years’ jail for negligence

THE skipper and the operations manager of the company offering the service of the catamaran that capsized on January 28, 2017, near Pulau Mengalum while transporting tourists from China, were sentenced to two years’ jail each by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu, today.

Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim handed down the sentence on Sharezza Salian, 27, and Leong Vin Jee, 46, after both of them were found guilty of multiple charges of negligence in handling the boat with 28 Chinese tourists and three crew onboard.
