APRIL 3 — As this is written, China has placed the Covid-19 pandemic in Wuhan under control, if not the whole of the country. This is quite a feat for a population of 1.3 billion, that has only begun its serious lock down of Wuhan, a city in Hubei province.

To the degree China can advise countries on how to carry out a localised, rather than a nation-wide outbreak of Covid-19, then China has begun the steps to be a real actor in the world. Barring the understanding of this refined approach, countries with authoritarian streak will go berserk in imposing nation-wide lock down by pointing to China as an example. The result is a lose-lose proposition. The lessons of China are lost, and the world careens into an authoritarian dark hole.

So far, while the Chinese social media has not stopped speculating on a biological war from the West, it is admirable that Chinese leadership has not indulged in it. Yet to this day, Dr Helen Chan, having retired from WHO has retained a reticent approach. She did not explain why the pandemic has not been flagged earlier to the rest of her medical colleagues across the world.

China can also save the world by explaining why did it close its borders on the rest of world, only to ask various countries to keep them open? Such as urging the likes of Vietnam, South Korea and Cambodia, at one stage, to maintain their business as usual. It is only lately that China has encouraged various countries to shut down their societies to break the vector of transmission.

Had China responded like the west the world would be in a really shit shape

Very well sir. In time like this a credible amount of depth is put into this. China's silence is questionable on many points highlighted by the author. China can play a pivotal role to mediate the situation on this pandemic outbreak, but sincerity is utmost necessity.

Create the problem in the first place due then play the role of saviour....do you think we are that naive.Gross mismanagement in the early stages threatening and silencing whistle blowers , bullying the WHO, only a totalitarian state can react like China did.

China cant sace the world, but they can assist the country who appreciate thier help and maybe some good advice we should follow and maybe improved it

Please bear in mind the province of Hubei itself (where its capital Wuhan is the epicentre of the Covid-19 infection) is as big as Malaysia in terms population and geographical size.

We can save ourselves. Really.
