Huge relief: Ong leaving the High Court a free man after he was acquitted of drug trafficking charges.Tears of joy filled the courtroom when a businessman embraced his family and wept for a good minute after he was acquitted and discharged of trafficking over 8kg of methamphetamine more than six years ago.
It was a huge sigh of relief for Ong and his family when High Court Judicial Commissioner Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case.“There is no proof that he was distributing the drugs as well, ” he said as he read out the judgment. Ong was charged with trafficking 8.73kg of methamphetamine on Nov 13,2013 at about 10.40pm at a pawnshop in Bukit Mertajam.
