A one-way bus journey takes two-and-a-half hours, while the express boat journey takes an hour more.

Previously, express boat was the only mode of transport to get to Song and Kapit as there was no connecting road.

However, with the completion of the 110km Sibu-Song-Kapit Road, two bus companies – Lanang Road Bus Company Bhd and Rejang Transport Sdn Bhd – have become pioneers of the land route. The daily departure schedule is 7am, 11am and 3pm for both the Sibu-Song-Kapit and Kapit-Song-Sibu sectors.Sarawak Bus Transport Company Associa-tion adviser Lau Khing Seng said the route was being serviced by 38-seater buses.

On the bus fare, Lau said it was cheaper than the RM35 per person charged by kereta sewa or passenger vans. With the completion of the Sibu-Kapit Road, he anticipates more bus companies will be providing service.Meanwhile, Lanang Road Bus Company will add buses for the Sibu-Song-Kapit sector based on the response.“But if response is good, we will increase the number of buses,” said company manager Chua Huat.
