The commandos were sweeping the area after Kpl Baharuddin Ramli , 54, was killed and Kpl Norihan Tari, 39, was left in critical condition after the shootout at 3am on Tuesday.Earlier, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin confirmed that the duo had been involved in a shootout with smugglers at the Malaysia-Thailand border and instructed the police to identify and apprehend the assailants involved.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said a post-mortem would be conducted on Kpl Baharuddin's body at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here on Tuesday afternoon. He also said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador will be coming to the hospital to visit the family members of the deceased.

"At the moment, he is in Perlis visiting Kpl Norihan, who was critically injured, ” ACP Ahmad Shukri said, adding that the IGP would also probably inspect the scene of the incident.
