The 48-year-old has been holed up in the closed Amon Nos Autes cafe in the eastern village of Pepinster since Tuesday, to draw attention to the ordeal that she and other owners in Belgium’s bar and restaurant sector are going through. From the start of the pandemic until now, Belgium has gone from being one of the worst-hit countries in the world -— with one of the highest per capita Covid-19 mortality rates -- to being among the few EU countries to get a grip on curbing infections.
