PETALING JAYA: Awang Rasau, the Malayan tiger which was shot by poachers, has died, says the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

"It is with sadness that we report that Awang Rasau is no more. The death was reported at noon on March 5 at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Veterinary Hospital, due to excretory system failure and bacterial infection of the wound on his hind leg," Perhilitan posted on its Facebook page on Friday .The bullets hit its lungs and nervous system, which paralysed half of its body.

"Awang Rasau's health began to worsen on March 3 and Perhilitan tried to save its life by seeking further treatment and advice from experts at the veterinary hospital on March 4," said Perhilitan.
