KUALA LUMPUR: Dua atlet negara terpaksa melupakan sambutan Deepavali minggu depan dan mengharapkan pengorbanan itu berbaloi dalam misi memburu pingat di pentas Sukan SEA Filipina 2019, akhir bulan depan.

Malah, ada atlet seperti atlet karate, A Somanroy dan pemain badminton, M Thinaah terpaksa melupakan kemeriahan sambutan serta berkumpul bersama keluarga dan rakan-rakan apabila menyertai kejohanan di luar negara sebagai persiapan akhir menghadapi Sukan SEA di Filipina.Somanroy, 21, ketika ditemui Bernama, menganggap Kejohanan Karate Remaja dan Kadet Dunia di Chile dari Rabu hingga Ahad depan lebih penting dari menyambut Deepavali.

Beliau berkata kejohanan dunia itu akan menjadi penanda aras untuk mengukur prestasi sebenar sebelum menghadapi Sukan SEA. Somanroy merupakan pemenang pingat emas acara 84 kilogram ke atas pada Kejuaraan Persekutuan Karate Asia Tenggara 2019 di Bangkok.
