As Klang Valley hit by repeated water cuts, observers question authorities' efficacy

Tuesday, 20 Oct 2020 08:08 AM MYT

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd , in a statement yesterday, again said the contamination at the source of raw water was detected in Sungai Selangor and it affected 1,196,457 account holders of Air Selangor in 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley, namely Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang / Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

“Pollution cases take too long to be brought to court and so are the trials before any decision can be made. “Environmental forensics needs to be strengthened. It needs to be updated with the latest laboratory facilities and equipment in detecting elements of contaminants, given the presence of various new generation chemicals as well as climate factors in the country,” he said, adding that UPM also has environmental forensic experts to identify pollutants in the environment.

However, the Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the latest water disruption is unbelievable and unacceptable as it came just after reports that the water supply has been restored to 686 areas due to the previous water disruption.

How many more times, AmirudinShari before you fire those in charge? The blame cannot be going in circles and has to stop somewhere, and as MB, it’s your administration. We need a better system of checks and enforcements - every months there is a “pollution issue”. This is rubbish! Where are the JAS DOE & local authorities? Strict continuous surveillance & monitoring needed. All illegal factories + those which pollute rivers / streams / drains must be heavily fined, directors / managers jailed & operations shut down. SPRM MACC please look into this. Kalau kat office dulu, dia ni dah banyak kali kena sack.
