The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research does not discount the possibility of another overnight policy rate cut being introduced later this year due to the impact from the 2019 novel coronavirus situation in Malaysia.

He told reporters this during a press conference on the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the Malaysian economy in Kuala Lumpur today. Meanwhile, MIER deputy director Prof Jamal Othman said the Covid-19 outbreak is under control in Malaysia as the government has done a good job in containing the outbreak.

“Chinese tourist expenditure in Malaysia is expected to decrease by 25 percent, while wholesale and retail sales are expected to decline by one to two percent,” he said.
