Yesterday, Peng Soon-Valeree Siow conceded a walkover to a lower-ranked Balkeshari Yadav-Swetaparna Pandaof of India in the second round after the former suffered severe vertigo and tinnitus in Lucknow, India.

Said Peng Soon: “There was ringing in the ears and I felt dizzy. I could not play and we decided to withdraw.” Valeree, however, made up for the disappointment of having to sit out the mixed event by triumphing in the women’s doubles with Low Yeen Yuan. The duo pulled off a 21-15, 21-17 win against Srivedya Guruzada-Ishika Jaiswal of India to set up a meeting against compatriots Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien in today’s quarter-finals.

RESULTS Men’s singles: Mithun Manjunath bt Soong Joo Ven 16-21, 21-16, 23-21; Cheam June Wei bt Kaushal Dharmamer 21-16, 21-13. Men’s doubles: Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun bt Himanshu Mittal-Shubham Sharma 21-7, 21-9; Krishna Prasad-Vishnuvardhan Goud bt Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Lim Khim Wah 15-21, 21-17, 21-8.
