BY JERRY CHOONGKUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today the government has withdrawn the permission to allow Heineken Malaysia Berhad's factory to operate during the ongoing movement control order
The Federal Territories minister said on Twitter that the decision was made this morning during a Cabinet meeting, following backlash from some in the Malay-Muslim community. "It has been cancelled this morning, as it was not in line with the policy set by the government," he wrote. Several leaders from Islamist party PAS and the Youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia had criticised their Perikatan Nasional allies for the decision made by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
This comes as a letter by the ministry to Heineken went viral online, in which it agreed that the alcoholic drinks manufacturer is a food supply operator, therefore allowed to operate during the MCO.Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi from Gabungan Parti Sarawak is the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.reported an anonymous ministry source claiming the letter was issued without prior authorisation from the minister.
Someone get blamed and others take credit . . All from same govt
So no more drinkies orders? MCO just got way more difficult
Non essential...minimize people movement by minimize economy activity...the true goal of reducing covid 19...pls keeep in mind everybody...
How about the many licensed gambling dens and massage parlours? When is PN/PAS going to revoke the permits?
They will approve it again. Reason no income from tax. This is just sendiwara
GEanalyst Yeah with less taxes can start printing money right?
Ok then. Bare in mind they export n if they’re willing to open then there r jobs n tax revenue. Many other companies will not open anytime soon even if allowed. No demand. Good luck with the economy. Stay poor under the Taliban.
who approved this?
Ban cigarettes and close cigarette companies, Coke has cocaine traces ban it. What about Red Bull, coffee. Islam forbids ALL intoxicants that impair the senses.
This country run by very extreme people
After all the increasing number of fatal accidents caused by alcoholic road users, such substance should be banned once and for all.
Good move.
Then govt should also revoke the permit factories involved in cigarette making.. its not essential, and according to religious sentiment, HARAM also..
Well gov will be missing the tax income it badly needs.....
Shows the continued prevailing extremist mindset among many. Beer not essential? Fair enough. But why the Talibanesque behaviour about haram blah blah blah? So if it were Coke, completely okay? The hypocrisy and fanaticism astound, truly astound.
Please sack the signor of the letter..he was appointed on 31st January 2020 of I m not mistaken with the PH gomen. Kindly sack all politically appointed en mass.
