FORMER Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein has betrayed the party after attending a meeting with Barisan Nasional and PKR lawmakers behind the party’s back, Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam said.

The meeting at Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali’s official residence in Putrajaya last night is also a betrayal of the BN coalition and PAS, which signed a pact on political cooperation with Umno, Lokman said.

More so after BN had just won the Tg Piai by-election on Saturday, he said in a statement.

“Hishammuddin once again betrayed Malaysians, especially those who voted in Tg Piai two to three days ago for BN to win the seat.

“What is his excuse when he led 22 BN MPs to Azmin’s house in Putrajaya last night?”

The meeting last night is speculated to be about ousting Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad from office.

Lokman said even if this were the case, it was a disappointment to the BN and PAS machinery who had worked hard in Tg Piai.

“BN and PAS are surely disappointed with Hishammuddin’s betrayal,” Lokman said.

Hishammuddin, the Sembrong MP, has been linked with previous efforts after the 14th general election last year to get Umno MPs to join Pakatan Harapan.

Last night, reporters spotted Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and Deputy Transport Minister Kamaruddin Jaffar leaving the two-hour meeting which began at 9.30pm.

They were among five PKR lawmakers said to have been present.

Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa when contacted today declined to comment but said he did not receive any invitation to such a meeting.

“This is now a disciplinary issue for the party, as a secretary-general I can’t comment,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

“I was not invited but I am not sure about the others. If it is true, I need to know the meeting is for what purpose. I will ask. No one invited me. I am a pro-Umno.”

Pressure on Dr Mahathir to quit has garnered momentum after PH lost heavily in Tg Piai on Saturday.

  • A bunch of politicians without principle. They are all going for self interest and position. Malays must act like the Chinese voters, 'do as what u said' ,then we trust u. If I were the Malay, I will vote out all these selfish leaders and replace them with selfless leaders like Anwar Ibrahim, HilmiRafizi, Nik Nazmi, Nurul Izzah, Dzulkifli Ahmad, Khalid Samad, Mujahid, Salahuddin and many more. Umno reps are all corrupted, so forget about them if u want your anak cucu to have a good future.
