BARISAN Nasional (BN) has a long way to go before it can think of capturing Putrajaya after its assuring win in the Tg Piai polls, said former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.

He said Saturday’s win is a good result for the coalition in its quest to reclaim Putrajaya.

“BN is not perfect. We need to look deep into ourselves but this has refreshed us to continue.

“After one-and-a-half years, and be where we are today is a miracle.

“Nobody expected this result. But at the end of the day we need to perform as an effective opposition.

“Now, we have one extra voice to do that,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Hishammuddin, who is Sembrong MP, attributed BN’s victory to teamwork and not any individual.

“I think it is teamwork. No individual can claim credit for our win and that’s always been BN’s strength.

“It is impossible to get such a huge win if it wasn’t for the effort of everyone who campaigned for Wee Jeck Seng,” he said as some claimed the win was due to efforts by former prime minister Najib Razak.

Pakatan Harapan suffered a humiliating defeat when Wee was declared winner of the Tg Piai contest with a 15,086-vote majority.

The MCA man got 25,466 votes, while his closest competition, PH’s Karmaine Sardini from Bersatu, polled 10,380.

Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam won 1,707 votes, Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (850), and independents Ang Chuan Lock (380) and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar (32).

The by-election was called following the death of Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, on September 21 due to heart complications. – November 18, 2019.
