PETALING JAYA: The Women and Family Development Ministry has refuted news reports claiming that domestic violence saw a 57% increase during the movement control order (MCO) period, claiming the figure was untrue.

“The Ministry would like to stress that the increase in the total percentage of the calls covers every category, including calls regarding the Covid-19 virus, Welfare Department referral support cases, counselling cases, and others, ” it said.

It said immediate action can be taken by the Welfare Department in accordance with the Child Act 2001 and Domestic Violence Act 1993. “Please refer to legitimate sources as well as ministerial explanations before making any statements in any communicative channels, ” it added.
