MASKS are no longer mandatory on flights, Khairy Jamaluddin said.

The health minister said in a statement that this takes effect immediately.

“The Health Ministry, on September 7, announced that it would no longer be mandatory to wear masks indoors, and that any decision to do so will be optional,” he said.

“Based on current Covid-19 assessment and taking into account existing needs, the ministry would like to announce that the wearing of masks will no longer be required on flights, effective immediately.”

However, he said, the ministry highly encouraged the wearing of masks for those who exhibit influenza-like symptoms; high-risk individuals such as the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, those with low immunity and pregnant women; and individuals who are travelling with high-risk folk such as senior citizens and children.

Khairy previously announced that the wearing of masks indoors would be optional.

However, he said, masks must still be worn in hospitals, public transport and nursing homes.

He said premises owners can still decide whether or not visitors need to wear masks. – September 28, 2022.
