The Malaysian Orang Asli Graduates Association (PMOA) was proud to announce that Susherrie Suki, an Orang Asli girl from Malaysia, graduated with first-class honours at the University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom.

The Semai native did her Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning and Real Estate at the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL.

PMOA added that Susherrie is the first Orang Asli graduate from Malaysia to graduate with first-class honours at UCL.

The organisation announced this on their official Twitter on Tuesday, 13 September.

Due to her excellent results, she has been offered the opportunity to further her studies and take her Master’s degree at the same university.

A high achiever from the start

Susherrie obtained 10A’s in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), which led her to receive a Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) scholarship under the Young Talent Development Programme (YTP) to further her studies.

She can also converse in four languages: Bahasa Semai, Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Mandarin.

Besides being book smart, she actively participates in extracurricular activities and holds positions in a few societies.

She’s a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, the head of publicity in the Bartlett Urban Planning Society, and the head of communications and corporate at the UCL Malaysian Society.

Susherrie is a Perakian and both her parents are from the Semai tribe. The Semai tribe mostly resides in areas of Perak such as Chinggung Orang Asli Village, Behrang Ulu, Tanjung Malim, and Ulu Geruntum Orang Asli Village.

Thanking everyone who supported her

Susherrie was touched by all the support she received back home. In gratitude, she thanked everyone, including MARA, for being by her side throughout her studies via an Instagram post.

She also hoped her late mother would be proud of her. Susherrie explained that she didn’t have time to post her graduation pictures online because she was busy with her internship.
