2,536 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA reported 2,536 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, nine more than Saturday.

The latest figure takes the cumulative cases since the onset of the pandemic to 4.57 million

Five fatalities were also reported yesterday, taking the death toll to 35,776.

The ministry’s GitHub raw data repository showed that Selangor registered 1,070 cases, the only state to report more than 1,000 fresh infections.

Other states and territories reporting new cases include Kuala Lumpur (538), Perak (239), Penang (140), Sabah (139), Negri Sembilan (103), Malacca (66), Johor (64), Putrajaya (59), Sarawak (30), Pahang (27), Kedah (26), Terengganu (17), Kelantan (8), Perlis (5) and Labuan (5).

Of the five deaths, two each were reported in Johor and Terengganu, while one in Sarawak.

The number of active cases dropped to 29,793 yesterday, as 3,123 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 28,508 (95.7%) were in home quarantine; 19 (0.1%) were in low-risk quarantine centres; and 1,221 (4.2%) were in hospitals.

Some 45 patients were in intensive care, 26 of whom required respiratory assistance. – July 4, 2022.
