ANOTHER 98 5G network sites will be established in the greater Ipoh region covering the Kuala Kangsar municipality as well as Kampar and Batu Gajah districts by October. 

Perak Youth and Sports, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed said 5G access is expected to cover the entire state, making Ipoh the first town in the northern region to have 1GBps internet access speed.

“Since the launch in April last year, Ipoh City Council has kicked off 12 projects including the main Ipoh Smart City project, in which the Ipoh Integrated Command Centre was jointly mobilised with Telekom Malaysia (TM). 

“This command centre is the pulse of the Ipoh Smart City Action Plan, which will be a smart control centre that has the ability to process big data using artificial intelligence software and the internet of things, thus smoothing the city’s urban governance and intensifying the application of high-tech sensors and devices,” he said in a statement.

In this regard, Khairul Shahril said the Ipoh City Council and TM One have implemented a trial period for a smart traffic light system at four junctions along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah since November 2021.

“The four junctions which have been installed with the smart traffic light system are Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Laksamana junction, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar junction, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz junction and Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Ekram junction.

“The TM One Stars system is equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities, high-definition artificial intelligence cameras and video analytics that enable intelligent traffic analysis for optimal smooth traffic,” he added. 

He said the system would help streamline traffic flow by up to 51% especially during peak hours which would help save time and cost for road users along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and reduce carbon emissions by 7,500kg per month in line with the council’s intention to make Ipoh a low-carbon city by 2030. – Bernama, June 28, 2022.
