Malaysia reports zero Covid-19 deaths for first time in 18 months

MALAYSIA did not reported a single Covid-19 death on Saturday, the first time zero daily fatalities were logged since December 18, 2020.

“Our ongoing transition to endemicity has been calibrated and data-driven. Let us pray it continues paying off,” Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said on Twitter.

The country’s death toll remained at 35,732, logging 35,299 deaths since December 18, 2020,

Meanwhile, the ministry also reported 1,690 fresh coronavirus infections yesterday, taking the cumulative total of cases since the onset of the pandemic to 4.54 million.

Only Selangor (748 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (287) reported infections in triple digits. 

Other states reporting new cases include Perak (95), Sabah (93), Penang (92), Negri Sembilan (84), Johor (56), Malacca (53), Putrajaya (51), Sarawak (48), Kedah (36), Pahang (19), Kelantan (16), Terengganu (7), Perlis (3) and Labuan (2).

The number of active cases dropped to 25,944 yesterday, as 2,108 people recovered from the disease. 

SOME 24,906, or 96%, were in home quarantine, 15 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres, and 1,000 (3.9%) in hospitals.

A total of 23 patients were in intensive care, 15 of whom required respiratory assistance. – June 20, 2022.
