PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four individuals, including two assistant medical officers, on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes for matters related to funeral arrangements.

They allegedly accepted bribes between RM1,000 and RM4,000.

According to sources, two suspects were medical assistants aged 35 and 38, while the other two were assistant medical officers aged 37 and 41.

They were arrested at about 6pm at the Selangor MACC when they came to have their statements recorded.

The suspects served in a hospital in Selangor and are believed to have asked for and received bribes for funeral management from certain individuals, in return for them to continuously get funeral management work from 2018 to 2021.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias ​​Salim confirmed the arrest and added that the case was being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.

"Three suspects will be brought to the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court, Selangor on Tuesday (May 31) to obtain a remand order.

"The other suspect who is a 41-year-old assistant medical officer will be released on MACC bail due to health factors after giving evidence to assist in the investigation of the case," he said.
