THE Federal Court has given Najib Razak till the end of today to file an appeal against his conviction and sentence in his RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

The former prime minister on April 11 appealed for a time extension to file his appeal petition no later than today.

The Federal Court, in granting the extension, said the politician has to file his appeal by end of the day, reported Malaysiakini.

The news portal quoted deputy public prosecutor Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul as saying that Najib has to file his appeal petition for the SRC International main appeal by today.

Najib is seeking to set aside his conviction and sentence over abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million of SRC International funds.

He is sentenced to 12 years’ jail and handed a RM210 million fine.

Najib’s appellate court appeal was dismissed in December, but he received a stay of execution pending his appeal to the Federal Court.

In his time extension application, he said his lawyers need more time to study the grounds of judgment by the Court of Appeal.

He said the defence team received the documents – 176 volumes in total – only on March 31, and cannot prepare an appeal petition in time. – April 25, 2022.
