PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is ready to field young candidates in the upcoming state elections in Johor, said the coalition chairman.

Anwar Ibrahim said the central leadership will discuss the matter with the state chapter.

“Our approach is that candidates must be young, strong and include women. We will seek to get all (component) parties involved.

“We will have young candidates from among our youth leadership.”

The Port Dickson MP urged the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the upcoming polls without restriction, saying that PH’s face-to-face meeting with people is its strength.

He said if the coalition cooperates with other opposition parties, it can definitely defeat Barisan Nasional (BN) led by Umno.

The opposition can work together if it is consistent in fighting issues such as corruption and power abuse, he added.

Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin today reportedly said PH’s desire to cooperate with other opposition parties in the polls will lead to a repeat of its failed formula of the PH government.

Prior to the dissolution of the state assembly on Saturday, BN held 28 seats and PH, 27.

The Kempas seat is left vacant following the death of its incumbent, former menteri besar Osman Sapian, on December 21.

The EC will be meeting to fix the election dates on February 9. – Bernama, January 25, 2022.
