RELATIVES of Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim have written to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to resolve the case of the government suing them for RM16 million, lawyers for both sides confirmed in the High Court today.

The family’s lawyer, Prem Ramachandram told High Court judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin that the letter was submitted on November 16.

“They have prepared a report and (the letter was) submitted to higher management for consideration on November 16 last year,” Prem told the court today.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim confirmed that the prosecution had received the letter, and that it had brought the matter to the attention of the AGC’s head of prosecution.

“Our investigating officer is conducting further investigation on the family’s representation,” she said.

Jamil adjourned the case to February 8, pending the AGC investigation.

In the forfeiture suit filed in September 2019, the government is demanding RM16 million from accounts belonging to Azeez’s wife Khadijah Mohd Noor, their four children, and also a shop lot in Bandar Sunway, which is owned by their company.

The government intends to retrieve the sum from the Tabung Haji personal accounts of Khadijah, Mohamed Khairul Anwar, Mohamed Khairul Azman, Khaleeda Azwav and Khaleeda Azeera, and the company account for Azeera Management Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd.

The former Tabung Haji chairman is also facing trial for three counts of accepting RM5.2 million in bribes, in connection with road projects in Perak and Kedah, and 10 counts of laundering RM13.9 million, which he allegedly received from Menuju Asas Sdn Bhd.

However, the trial has been postponed pending his appeal to have the case dismissed. – January 3, 2022.
