PAS, Umno and Bersatu are in discussions to avoid tricornered contests in the Malacca elections, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said yesterday.

He said there should be consensus among the three parties on the distribution of seats to minimise clashes among the three parties.

“If we can’t avoid (clashes) in one or two (seats), we have to face them. But there should not be too many three-cornered contests as it will be detrimental to all parties.

“Therefore we must have consensus, InshaAllah there will be a way out,” he told reporters after launching the PAS Selangor building in Section 13, Shah Alan, yesterday night.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS intended to contest five seats in Malacca, but the plan had yet to be finalised.

“PAS intends to contest five seats in Malacca and I mentioned to Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan that we will not take Umno seats.

“We have 28 seats in Malacca while Umno has 13 or 14 seats. So there are about 14 more seats over which we can sit down to discuss so that we can avoid clashes,” he said.

Meanwhile, he welcomed the Health Ministry’s ban on gatherings linked to the elections effective tomorrow until November 27 to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

“Our intention is to avoid Covid-19 (outbreaks) and we did not even expect that there would be an election in Malacca. But because we have to hold elections, PAS will use the (campaign) methods that are allowed, whereby we will be using a lot of social media (to reach out to voters,” he said. – Bernama, October 25, 2021.
