Covid-19 (Oct 17): 6,145 cases, lowest since July 4

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 6,145 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,390,687.

The number of fresh infections today is the lowest in 105 days, since July 4.

They comprised 5,763 Malaysians (93.8 percent) and 382 non-citizens (6.2 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 9,231 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

Patients in ICU: 682
Intubated: 350

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 10.1 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.2 percent from a week ago.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry only publishes the daily breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 16), where 7,509 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Clusters

To date, 676 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including nine new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.5 percent from the 810 active clusters a week ago.

The nine new clusters today comprised six workplace clusters (66.7 percent), two community clusters (22.2 percent) and one high-risk group cluster (11.1 percent).
