Daily Covid-19 vaccine shots cross 200,000 target

THE number of Covid-19 vaccine doses given yesterday continued to hit the target of more than 200,000 daily, with 252,730 administered.

Of this,174,448 were first shots and 78,325 were second shots, the Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said in infographics on Twitter.

The target is to be raised to 300,000 shots daily by August.

The current cumulative number of shots given is 6.56 million, of which 4.75 million are first doses, while 1.8 million people have received their second shots.

This works out to 14.5% of the country’s population with one dose, and 5.5% who have been fully vaccinated with two doses.

The top three states with the highest vaccination rate are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Perlis.

In Kuala Lumpur, 46.5% of the population or 825,010 people have received their first shot, and both doses for 8.9% or 157,393 people.

In Putrajaya 32.3% or 35 475 have had a first dose, and 20.9% or 22,957 people, two doses.

In Perlis, 24% or 61,172 have had the first shot and 13.1% or 33,455, both shots.

Selangor, the country’s most populous state, has only had 11.2% of its population or 731,294 people covered by one dose. Just 3.6% or 237,622 people have been fully vaccinated.

Other states have between 10% and 13% of their populations covered with one shot, and between 5% and 7% with two shots.

Sabah is the state with the lowest vaccination rate, at 9% of its population or 349,910 people with the first dose. Only 3% of its population has had two doses.

Sarawak has covered 27.5% of its population or 775,906 people with one dose, and 6.7% or 189,280 people with two doses.

Labuan, with a small population, has covered 29.5% or 29,395 with one dose, and 3.8% or 13,746 people with two doses. – June 24, 2021.
