Lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohamad, who is in Najib's defence team, informed High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Wednesday that Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was on MC due to a severe throat infection.
He said the defence team did not have a choice but to seek for the trial to be vacated on Wednesday and Thursday according to the MC given. “Shafee actually wanted to be here today but his condition does not permit him to be present, ” Wan Aizuddin. Earlier, lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram told the court that former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi was also unable to attend the proceedings.
The 49-year-old key prosecution witness, currently under cross-examination by Shafee, was also on two days' MC.Najib, 66, faces 25 charges in total – four for abuse of power which allegedly brought him financial benefit to the tune of RM2.28bil from 1MDB; and 21 for money laundering involving the same amount of money.
