UMNO leader Lokman Noor Adam was arrested last night for investigations into criminal intimidation.
The former Supreme Council member confirmed his arrest on social media by publicly asking for a lawyer to be sent to the Classified Unit Investigation Department in Bukit Aman and contact one Inspector Nasir.
“I have been detained under Section 506,” he posted last night.
Bukit Aman CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the arrest and said police would issue a statement later.
Police sources told The Malaysian Insight that police are seeking a remand order for Lokman today.
He was arrested at about 11pm while broadcasting a live talk about Budget 2021 on his Facebook page.
Harian Metro said Lokman was in his restaurant near the Putra World Trade Centre at that time.
Lokman is a known critic of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his Perikatan Nasional government.
In the past, he had posted videos online slamming Muhyiddin over the way Umno was being sidestepped in the government.
He is a staunch supporter of former prime minister Najib Razak, and has expressed views that the latter should be allowed to make a political comeback. – November 2, 2020.
