Johor ruler threatens to dissolve the state assembly and 9 news from yesterday

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

1. Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar (above) threatened to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly if there is another power struggle in the state, but Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim argued that there are constitutional limits to the sultan’s ability to carry out the threat.

2. Johor Pakatan Harapan said it would respect the ruler’s decree despite speculation that it is plotting a counter-coup, while Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad called for political leaders to end their squabbling and work together to develop the state.

3. Activists protesting against a hospital cleaning services company’s alleged union-busting have been released after magistrate rejected the police’s remand application, but they will face charges in court today.

4. Two areas in Kuala Langat, Selangor, have been placed under a semi-enhanced movement control order. Residents are allowed to enter or leave only if they have been tested for Covid-19.

5. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and other attendees at a post-cabinet meeting involving a Covid-19 patient have completed their quarantine period with no new infections detected. They will resume work today.
