Explanation of the program Kyougen “ Gantsubute（Throw a small rock at a wild goose）”
A feudal lord is aiming to shoot a wild goose at a nearby pond to practice archery when a passerby throws a small rock at it and shoots it down. As the man tries to pick up the goose, the feudal lord threatens him with his bow and arrow, telling him to leave it behind as he had killed it himself by aiming at it with his arrow. An arbitrator hears what happened and decides to let the feudal lord shoot again. The feudal lord fails and chases after the man, asking him to at least give a feather.
When he arrives at the bridge, Benkei appears in all his pompous glory carrying a large naginata sword, and Ushiwaka mischievously engages Benkei. A duel begins between the two, but Benkei’s bravery is no match for Ushiwaka’s fast and agile movements and Benkei’s naginata sword is struck down. Benkei surrenders, and when he learns that the boy is Minamoto no Ushiwaka of noble birth, he makes a promise of fidelity to him.
