having a tea. They look beautiful in their 70’s and 80’s and we were inspired to shoot older asian ladies instead of young faces and make them into paintings.
For the casting it turns out that Souhi's mum, a beautiful lady that used to be a dancer and still does, has a ballroom in Queens where few times a week many older asian ladies go to dance and make moves to keep in good health. She approached them. They were so happy and flattered to be asked to shot by a team of professionals.. They were so beautiful and nice during the shoot while we were doing hair and make up the rest of them were sitting on the couch with their phones like models waiting for their turn.
Everybody was asian. Hair, make up and stylist and models . I wanted to keep it within korean and japanese culture and background. I wanted to see how they felt with all that make up hair and clothes and to show how beautiful and interesting they are not matter how old are you. For me what comes out in the photographs is their inner beauty. The images are barely retouched but in general my images always have very little retouching.
