Some worst case projections within the HSE have suggested that the number of patients, requiring intensive care, could rise to a peak of 546 a day, by around mid-April.

One scenario presented to officials, and seen by RTÉ News, has projected the peak number of patients a day requiring acute care at 1,328 on April 11.

Some experts believe this scale of cases is unlikely to be seen, because of the stay at home and other major measures announced by Government and recommended last Friday, by the National Public Health Emergency Team and because the number of contacts per confirmed case is now down to under five.

I had an awful nights sleep and this was the headline on my phone that I woke up to this morning 😫 I get the need to prepare us but PLEASE PLEASE stop with the scaremongering.... letsbepositive

HSELive What REAL World Experts have to say: Prof. S. Bhakdi infectious disease specialist And Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg specialist pulmonary disease

Why do you love scaremongering the general public. You must be so disappointed that the figure of 15,000 was not reached. Tabloid journalism. Shame on the national broadcaster.

Daily growth has reduced to less than 10%....That is with more testing.....

What is the purpose of this story, only to scaremonger?Based on old and outdated figures. Utterly irresponsible to be the lead on today’s news. Kind of journalism that almost justifies Trump’s criticism.

....... but there are only 1200 at best so the shite storm ☔️ is due and the medical staff will be making the horrid young / old decision.

That’s so poor journalism RTÉ- reporting facts it’s good enough for you to get many people scared at this stage - perhaps best case scenario as a headline

That is poor reporting. Scaremongering based on data over a week old. Would have expected better from the National Broadcaster. Unless the intent is to keep the pressure on in which case why not say so?

This might have been valid 10 days ago when we had daily growth rates of 34%. We are now at 17% over the past 7 days so not valid. Poor call to publish this article based on old data. We will not need 546 beds a day mid April

What is the average waiting time for getting a result back now please FergalBowers

Siare Engineering make ventilators in Italy, they provide at cost price, they prioritise Italian hospitals. Medtronic make ventilators in Ireland, they provide at full price, they do not prioritise Irish hospitals. Why?

Based on incomplete models! This right here, this article this is sensationalism.

Irresponsible journalism. Shame on RTÉ. Marked ‘not for circulation’

Rapidly something needs to be set up for our doctors and nurses mental health. The decisions that they will be forced to make will have a profound effect on them. They need massive support from everyone constantly.
