The Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O'Gorman has said it is likely that the State will not be able to provide accommodation to newly arriving international protection applicants in the coming days.
The minister said it is likely that the Citywest Transit hub will be closed to newly arrived international protection applicants in the coming days. He said it will require"a sustained effort across the governmental system in order to address the needs of people over the next number of weeks" and that"there's a very real risk that we won’t be able to accommodate everybody"."Some of it will be hotels, some of it, as you know, we’re converting buildings and the like, so there’s a number of locations where we have potential accommodation coming from mid-February," the minister said.
"It appears that only an urgent intervention at the most senior level across national and local government will prevent large numbers of people becoming homeless," he added. In the meantime, he is worried about people falling through the cracks in the coming weeks, if as feared, people are not offered State provided accommodation.
Am I missing something here The UNHCR didn't call for urgent action when there was 11 000 homeless in IRELAND before any war If we couldn't house them How in the name of Jesus can we house 70 00O
IRELAND IS NOT FULL! We just have our own homeless people nobody cares about and now suddenly asylum seekers will be homeless as well! But Ireland is still not full. We had 8m population before the famine so we could definitely take a few million more and put them on the street
The state is not obliged to take them in. What murky little deal have they signed that prevents them from saying no more ?
So they gonna cry if refugees become homeless? Better things to cry about.
Given Minister O'Gorman has been actively encouraging & facilitating in multiple languages non Ukrainian 'asylum seekers' with talk of fast track housing etc his 'concern' at this point rings very hollow. Does his apparent admission we're full up also make him Far Right now?
House the Irish first
Ah nevermind Irish citizens and residents becoming homeless, sleeping in their cars etc.
Speed the application system! the ones not allowed here-deportation. The ones who have clean records (vetted) and come to work granted to stay. Make space deporting everyone not allowed (fake asylum- Georgia…..) how the hell they have to wait 2 years for a resolution?
Well maybe the UNHCR might put in a good word too for all those non-refugees who are finding housing impossible
Wat about our own irish !!!!!
Someone needs to send one of the new ambassadors around to O’gorman and teach him not to be so racist - what’s he at with this Ireland is full stuff?
Does anyone in the government have an ounce of sense DONT BRING THEM IN.....if you can't house them.pity you weren't as worried about the irish homeless. What about URGENT ACTION for our own people.😠🇮🇪
More trouble coming down the line. Hotels need to be emptied shortly for the summer tourist market. A lot of these refugees may refuse to leave hotel rooms for a tent in Gormanston or kerry.
I never sanctioned my taxes to be used in this manner ,busting my balls each day on site ,taxed to the hill and my taxes been used on economic refugees and chancers HelptheIrish supportourown We need a quick turnaround on spoofers, simples
So Stop taking refugees!! WTF do you think Ireland is? Warning because refugees will be on the street but no warning for Irish already living on the streets
No better solution than putting them all on a plane outta here.
Starting building houses and apartments to house everyone.
Are they running out of hotels to be used as plantation centres
They don't give a flying f**k about our own homeless, no wonder rage is building among the people, this and corruption, cronyism, cost of living, it's going to get ugly I fear.
Quick call him far right.
It's okay, all the people on Fairview flyover will take them into their homes
He and others will be hammered in a 1 years time or so
The government working hard for others instead of their own what a surprise.
No right to be here or obligation to take them. Tell the UN to clear off.
What about the Irish people .Economic migrants have no right to be in this bloody country.
Does that mean they are full?
Finally, someone grew a pair

But they'll leave them in anyway! What a shît show you’ve created Roderic… No shit Sherlock. The state hasn’t been able to accommodate it’s own citizens, and those who came here with good job offers and able to pay good rent, for years.
